About
My name is Charles Laing. I am a software developer living up in the cold north of Edmonton, Alberta.
I completed my Bachelor of Science in Computing Science, with a minor in Biological Sciences in the spring of 2019. Since 2018, I have been working as a software developer/engineer for NOV inc (formerly National Oilwell Varco).
My work history is varied. I completed an internship at BioLargo Water, where I was a research student performing experiments on the removal of organic pollutants from water, with a focus on treating Oil Sands Process Water. During this time, I also began work on a product called “Pasteur”, which was a drag-and-drop data analytics service combined with an Electronic Lab Notebook . This project allowed researchers to input their notes, perform analysis, and even use machine learning plugins directly within the application.
Following my internship, I worked with the Department of Chemistry, under Dr. Serpe, developing software to monitor and analyze an etalon microarray, which was part of a join research project with Keystone Labs, and Aurora Cannabis.
I am currently in the process of completing a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity with Georgia Tech, however I am taking a break from my studies due to family changes, which included welcoming two happy, bright new children to my family.
My current list of side projects can be found on my github: http://github.com/laingcc
